Rugby Borough wind energy landscape capacity study
Client: Rugby Borough Council
Landscape sensitivity and capacity study of the borough in relation to its ability to accommodate commercial scale wind energy. The study used the Warwickshire landscape character assessment as the basis for the assessment of types using a set of agreed defined criteria. Within types and areas with lower sensitivity scenarios were tested to explore cumulative effect and recommendations were made on the broad levels of capacity taking into consideration variations in landscape description units.
Issues included the presence of approved wind farms along the M1 corridor, current proposals, the possibilities of individual and cumulative effects on people and a subtle landscape and local anti-wind farm pressure groups.
The study will inform the consideration of planning applications for wind farms in the area.
