Cyfarthfa Heritage Area Masterplan
Client: Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council, WDA
Masterplanning of sensitive and complex area north of Merthyr town centre based around the listed Cyfarthfa Castle with its park and gardens and the Cyfarthfa Iron Furnaces on the other side of the Taff valley. The site includes elements of historic and modern dwellings, waste tips, modern industrial areas, development sites and the wooded corridor of the Taf Fawr and Taf Fechan rivers. Major parts of the site are visible from the A470 and the main road approaches to Merthyr.
White Consultants acted as team leader for team of tourism and town planners, an archaeologist and an ecologist. Community consultation was carried out with key stakeholders through meetings and exhibitions.
The final report set out a series of achievable implementation projects.
